Chicago Trip-Day Two

Ate a very delicious brunch at Yolk.
Mackenzie's Order-red velvet french toast filled with cream cheese icing, with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.

My Order- A triple decker sandwich with ham, turkey, bacon, avocado, romaine lettuce, and tomatoes with a side of french fries.
Pictures in the park, then headed home.

Chicago, Here We Come

I CANT WAIT!!
I always love going to Chicago. Seeing the museums, eating wonderful food, and just being in a huge city for a change.
Have you ever been to Chicago? Any advice?
We're thinking of going to the art museum and to the beach. I can't wait to share the pictures with you all after we get back. But for now I'll share a picture of the Chicago World Fair in 1893. It was clearly called the 'White City' for a reason.

P.S. You have to read this book about the Worlds Fair in Chicago in 1893. It is one of my favorite books of all time! The title totally sums it up: murder, magic, and the madness that changed America.

S'mores

So I will be heading up north for the next couple days and I can't wait!
Up north is one of my favorite, if not my favorite place on earth. Everyone is so relaxed and you just hang out, swim and eat. And I always come back with some crazy stories from my family. So I thought it would be fun to share a crazy s'more recipe.
Now, this is a rare treat because I don't cook at all. I even burn water. No joke. But I can make a pretty mean s'more.

Here's what I add every once in a while:

  • Sugar cookies
  • Melon
  • Soma girl scout cookies
  • Cookie dough
  • Strawberry short cake

I know they sound odd, but they are awesome! Try them out!

About Us

The Story Behind The Name

We both started this blog because we both have a passion for art, the beauty of nature, photography, and especially fashion. We got the idea to start a blog one afternoon after school when we were just hanging out together in a nearby park. We thought about how much we enjoyed reading blogs, why not make one ourselves. Thus, You, Me, & The Color RED was born! The idea behind the name came from the most obvious characteristics of ourselves. For Mackenzie, it’s her red glasses. She has over six pairs of glasses that she corresponds to each outfit that she wears. WOW. For Hayley, the ‘red is her hair. And yes, it’s natural. No hair dye here. The color runs on her mom’s side. We hope you all enjoy a little taste of our lives in You, Me, & The Color RED!

HEY THERE!
The name’s Hayley. I’ve traveled pretty much everywhere in my short teenage life, including Europe, but to me, no place is better than home. Bred in Texas I will always have a little bit of southern sass in me. Where I live now I consider my home sweet home and the place where I met my partner in crime, Mackenzie. I am still currently in high school but when I graduate my dreams are to become a designer of sorts. I have always enjoyed recreating things that have otherwise gone unloved. I have a great love for sewing and began working a machine early on in junior-high. It’s probably not surprising when I say that my favorite class is Home Ec.
I look forward to blogging with you!

Hi!
I’m Mackenzie, teenage aspiring graphic artist/ historian/ business owner. Born, raised, and still live in Wisconsin today with my best friend Hayley. We met in 7th grade when she moved here. My hobbies are my life. They’re what define me. I’m a part time kayaker, artist, historian, photographer and entrepreneur. I LOVE to travel and explore new places. The world is my oyster! After high school I want to double major in history and graphic art. Fun fact about myself: I drive a beat up old red jeep without any air conditioning, dented doors, a smashed front end, a tethered down trunk that won’t close, and the driver side door must remain unlocked at all times. If locked it jams.
Enjoy the blog!

Coldplay--->Paint Splatter T-Shirts

Back in December Kenzie, our great friend Amber, and I all bought tickets for a concert in Chicago. The band is Coldplay. Maybe some of you have heard of them, maybe not. They are THE BEST, in my personal opinion. My favorite band for many years. We leave in a week and we couldn't be more excited. It's all of our first live concert to see.
We used neon fabric paint because Coldplay's newest album cover is very bright and florescent.
Black shirts were also an obvious choice so the paint would stand out more.

To get a better splatter effect we mixed a SMALL amount of water with the paint. Enough to make it a little thicker then the consistency of milk.
Stir everything together with your fingers then flick it all over the shirt. You can use a spoon or paint brush or whatever but I have always found that getting your hands a little dirty makes it a lot more fun.
